Mark Patton, October program coordinator, introduced Chris Jones of U of I Hydrology.  The topic:  Update on Water Quality in Iowa City.  Chris talked about Iowa Quality information Systems and  the different glacier eras:  The pre-Illionian, Illionian, and the Wisconsin glacier and how each glacier has effected the land and climate. There used to be many wetlands, tall prairie grasses, and many forests. Today some of the issues are:  70% corn and soy beans, 13,000 sq. miles used for ethical production, 25 M hogs, 4 M cattle, 80 laying chickens, 5 M turkeys, 4 M boiler chickens, 220,000 dairy cattle.  What can be done to improve?  
Ban cropping for 2 years, Ban Fall tillage, Ban manure on snow and frozen ground, make framers adhere to ISU fertilizer guidelines, reformulate CAFO regulations. 
 
President Liz called the meeting to order at 7:05 am.  Past President Amy Nicholson presented the bylaws.  The members voted to pass the bylaws as written however we did not have a quorum.  The bylaws will be presented next week. The bylaws will be reviewed when a satellite is formed. Mark Stanley, director and Rotary Foundation club chair spoke on The Rotary Foundation.  He talked about Cherry Navigator and that The Rotary Foundation had received the 5 star rating for 13 years.  The Rotary Foundation has good financial health, accountability, and transparency.  The goal of Rotary defend the planet, stop pollution, end poverty, and promote equality.  On September 25, 2021, Rotary International President Elect, Jennifer Jones, pledged 97 million for 2022 to help reach these goals.  
Announcements:  Peggy Doerge announced that the Polio Event will be October 21, 2021, 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Ashton House.  A donation of $25.  There is a matching gift and the Gates Foundation matches 2 to 1. Peggy Doerge is collecting donations.  PDG and Foundation Chair said that One Rotary Summit will be October 20, 2021 form 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.  PDG John Ockenfels said he would take a car load to Rotary Leadership Institute in Mt. Pleasant on October 30, 2021.  He needs to be there by 8:00 am.   He said this is excellent training for all members.
