Michael Lawler and Jessica Morris from the Crisis Center brought Project Holiday tags and talked about the need for volunteers, especially at this time of year.

 

Nan Johnson and Nancy Pacha gave a Rotary Minute on our Interact programs at City and West.  Both are very active groups that coordinate much of the volunteer activity among students at their schools.  There are four members, Nan Johnson, Carolyn Wanat, Joan Garrity and Pam Ehly, who alternate attending City Interact meetings at 7:30 on Wednesdays.  Nancy Pacha could use some assistance in attending West Interact meetings, particularly from some of our male members, as a large group of guys in the freshman class have been attending West Interact this year.  They meet at 8:15 on Wednesdays.

 

Next week John and Deb Ockenfels will auction off 2 Nebraska-Iowa tickets for the Friday after Thanksgiving. The highest bidder's check will go to Rotary Foundation and will be matched in points by Deb and John.

 

We inducted Kade Hammes and Kathy Bowers today.  Kade is a transfer member from the West Des Moines club.  He is a Wealth Advisor for Clifton Larson Allen. Kathy is new to Rotary and is a pediatric nurse at UIHC.  Kade is sponsored by Liz Nichols and Kathy is sponsored by Sue Cronin and Dick Huber.

 

At least 10 people shared happy bucks, including one for $60 from Deb Ockenfels to celebrate her birthday.

 

 

Cassi Elton introduced Jamie Nevins, an LMT, who talked about massage therapy and its benefits.  She covered some of the effects of stress and trauma on the body and how certain types of massage, including, pressure point massage, can relieve the pain and start to alleviate inflammation associated with injuries and stress.  Nevins' website is www.BackTogetherMassage.com.
