The May 5th meeting featured a number of Rotaractors from the Iowa City area who spoke about what is going on in the newly reconstituted Rotaract Club in Iowa City.  The session was moderated by Usha Balakrishnan, the District 6000 Rotaract chair and a member of the Iowa City Noon Club.

Can sorting went well this past weekend at the Can Shed. About a dozen Rotary Club AM (and friends) participated.

A letter was read by the International President of Rotary about the earthquake in Nepal; Rotary will assist in relief. Donations can be made to District 6000 Relief Fund. John Ockenfels described the local support, Outreach (high quality packages of food).  Later people will be asked to help replenish the food.

John Ockenfels shared the District service award to Elaine Shalla in recognition of her work in the club and District.

Thank you was given for Deb Galbraith and David Johnson for the party they held on Sunday for outbound exchange students.

LaDonna Wicklund was presented a check for the I Can Read project that the club supports for literacy. She reported on the donations made to schools and local families to support literacy.

World in a Minute:

John Schultz reported on Sri Lanka which is an island country near India, 3000 year documented history, size of W. Virginia, 22 million population. It is a growing country; there are over 61 Rotary clubs.

Announcements:

Jody Braverman and Vicki Struzynski-Olson were introduced.  Vicki is the current assistant district governor and Jodi is the incoming one for the clubs in our area.

Martin Muller, a former Ambassadorial Scholar who was counseled by Carl Christensen during his early years here, announced he became a naturalized citizen two months ago; he was originally from Germany.

Usha shared information about the Rotaract club at UI. Rotaract members shared stories about their experiences and how they became involved in the club.

Happy Bucks:

Numerous Happy Bucks were shared.
