Rotarians in the News

John McKinstry was featured on TV in a story about the conversion of the Wallace Winery to a home for intellectually challenged young adults.  Youth at his church are working with the residents of this new group facility to improve the property and they are all having fun socializing.

It seemed like almost half the group were happy and exchanged bucks for a few moments of sharing.

Liz Loeb received a Paul Harris Plus One pin for her contributions to RI Foundation.

Speaker

Myrene Hoover indicated that she received questionnaires from 54% of the membership.  There were many strengths and a few weaknesses cited.  In particular, members like the variety of speakers, the French breakfasts, our sharing time with Happy Bucks and the amount of sharing and participation that goes on, the cheerful and enthusiastic nature of our group, and the strong community involvement demonstrated by so many members.

The weaknesses include dislike of constantly begging for club service volunteers; the disturbance, noise and time required to do dishes each week; difficulty getting new people involved; difficulty for new people to understand everything we do and everything Rotary does.

Myrene passed out a list of committee sign-ups for each member.

In order to begin working on some of these issues it was decided to give using biodegradable paper plates a try for at least the next two weeks before we take a vote on whether to eliminate the china plates.

Myrene also plans to try eliminating sign-ups for scribes, greeters, and possibly other club service tasks.  Liz Nichols will summarize meeting notes weekly while Myrene will do a weekly update of events, who on duty for the remaining tasks, and other special reminders.  She will recruit someone who arrives early to greet on a week to week basis.  Liz Nichols commented that we may put together a task group to look at designing a bulletin later on in the fall.

The meeting adjourned so that the Membership Committee members could take a few minutes to go over specific Membership concerns that came out of the survey.
